MARS 60th Anniversary Special Event Station
A two-week “on-air” celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the Mecklenburg Amateur Radio Society from March 7th through 21st, including a portable station operation at the 2009 Charlotte Hamfest.
On March 25th, 1949 the Mecklenburg Amateur Radio Society was founded and chartered in Charlotte, North Carolina. This March marks the 60th anniversary of MARS’ founding. The call W4B was obtained for MARS to use during the period of March 7th through the 21st. This time window was picked to overlap with the 2009 Charlotte Hamfest because the idea of having a station set up and operating at the Hamfest also sounded like a great way share our birthday with our friends and visitors.
In tribute to our club founders, their 13 names are listed on the reverse side of our new QSL card.
Our W4B Special Event announcement appeared in the March 2009 issue of QST magazine on page 94 and on-line at the ARRL’s website.
